Week 9: Brookhaven’s Social Scene — Events, Traditions & Community Spirit
In Brookhaven, life extends far beyond your front door. This neighborhood thrives on connection — where neighbors become friends and traditions bring everyone together. From annual celebrations to everyday gatherings, there’s always something happening that makes Brookhaven one of Matthews’ most socially active communities.
🍂 A One-of-a-Kind Fall Tradition
Each fall, I, Eric Schultz, organize one of Brookhaven’s most beloved events — a neighborhood camping weekend that brings together more than 80 residents for an unforgettable outdoor experience.
We set up tents right in the neighborhood, enjoy live music, pizza, pumpkin carving, bonfires, s’mores, and games, and wake up to donuts, coffee, and juice the next morning. It’s become a hallmark of Brookhaven’s community spirit — a reminder that our neighborhood doesn’t just share a zip code; we share memories.
🎃 Celebrating Every Season
Brookhaven celebrates the changing seasons with creativity and joy.
-
Halloween Costume Contests & Trick-or-Treating Routes that light up the neighborhood each October.
-
Santa’s Visits and Holiday Light Displays that make December magical for residents of all ages.
-
Father-Daughter Dances, Mother-Son Events, and Vegas Nights hosted by our active social committee.
-
Book Clubs, Yoga Classes, and Fitness Groups that meet regularly in the clubhouse and parks.
Whether it’s a major event or a casual get-together, Brookhaven’s social calendar reflects its strong sense of community and connection.
🏊 Brookhaven Barracudas — Our Neighborhood Swim Team
Summer in Brookhaven wouldn’t be complete without the Brookhaven Barracudas — a swim team that gives young residents a chance to compete, make friends, and build confidence while parents cheer from the sidelines. The team spirit is contagious, creating friendships that last long after the season ends.
🌟 A Community That Feels Alive
Brookhaven is not just about beautiful homes and resort-style amenities — it’s about the people who make it special. With an engaged HOA and social committee, year-round events, and opportunities for residents of all ages to connect, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy.
From sunrise yoga to summer pool parties, Brookhaven is a place where laughter echoes through the clubhouse, music fills the air on warm evenings, and neighbors genuinely look out for one another.
